Opportunity: Director of Operations for the Red Deer & District Museum Society (MAG)

The MAG was established in 1973 as a legacy collection of Red Deer and Central Alberta history and art. Today, through objects and artworks that focus on the traditional culture of our lands and the evolution of the City of Red Deer and surrounds, it continues to play a major role in connecting people to the region and in preserving our history.


The Red Deer & District Museum Society is looking for a Director of Operations to provide a strong administrative foundation for high quality museum and art gallery services.  As the MAG celebrates its first fifty years, the Society is seeking a leader to set the MAG up for even greater offerings and services into the future.

Position Overview


The successful applicant will;


  • Provide strategic leadership for the MAG and guidance to the Board of Directors (Board),
  • Ensure the strategic priorities of the Board are an integral part of the operational plan and key performance indicators are in place to ensure its success,
  • Plan, budget, organize and directly manage MAG Administration and Facilities teams within the strategic, policy and financial framework established by the Board,
  • Supervise two administrative non-union positions, Finance and Fund Development, as well as CUPE members including Administration, Collections, Exhibitions, Marketing, and Programs,
  • Collaborate with the coordinators of museum and art gallery services to enhance MAG offerings in the community.
