Position: Training Coordinator

Hours of work: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $30.18 per hour (benefits after successful completion of probation period)

The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) helps immigrants and refugees meet their social, cultural, and economic goals. Comprised of dedicated staff and volunteers, ICA provides language instruction, support finding housing and employment and a range of other services. In addition, ICA is actively engaged in the community to strengthen connections between immigrants and those born in Canada. Job description: Works closely with staff in different program areas in developing and coordinating the implementation of client and staff training programs. Provides leadership and support and builds capacity among ICA’s staff for the effective delivery of training services. Coordinates, guides, organizes, and may at times facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.  Leads, develops, designs, and may at times facilitate settlement based workshops/courses for ICA clients. Serves all individuals, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2+, and those with diverse abilities. Reports to the Language Services Manager.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate in adult education, or professional courses on themes pertinent to adult education and development of curricula/training plans, for adult audiences.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in facilitation and training or combination of education training, and experience.
  • Three years’ work experience within social services, nonprofit and/or multicultural environment.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Experience working with immigrants and refugees and understanding immigration issues.
  • Proficiency in a settlement/resettlement language preferred.
  • Indigenous cultural competencies and/or lived experience with Indigenous communities welcomed.
  • As conditions of hire, all successful candidates are required to provide proof of a current, clear criminal record check, including vulnerable populations check; completion of WHMIS training; and proof of vaccination status.

Key duties/responsibilities

  • Works in close collaboration with area managers and coordinators, identifies training and education needs across ICA.
  • Plans, designs, and coordinates the delivery of training initiatives in collaboration with respective area managers/coordinators or workshop/course facilitators.
  • Supports People and Culture team on professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Identifies emerging trends in order to proactively address the training needs of ICA.
  • Develops “train-the-trainer” curricula to expand ICA’s training resources.
  • Assists language training instructors in the planning of field trips and the scheduling of guest speakers for the language training program.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with other service providers to identify suitable guest speakers or training facilitators for IC’s courses and workshops.
  • If regular facilitator is unavailable, executes existing orientations, workshops, and life skills/education training courses.
  • Contributes to overall settlement program planning and orientation/workshop implementation.
  • Creates awareness of anti-oppressive/social justice issues.
  • Participates in training opportunities to stay current on issues impacting ICA’s clients and staff.
  • Participates in regular team and organization-wide staff meetings. Follow all ICA policies and administrative procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
