• Position Location: Vancouver, BC 
• Application Deadline: Application review begins February 1st
• Dates: May through September; possibility of extended hours through October
• Hours: Full-time position, 40 hours per week, Tuesday - Saturday. Market days are typically Wednesday evening and Saturdays; exact schedule to be confirmed.
• Compensation: $17.50 - $20/hr DOE. If the BC minimum wage increases, starting rate will also increase. All seasonal staff receive paid sick leave.

Note: Position is dependent on funding, which may change the number of hours or length of position.

The Market Lead is a key member of the Good Food Farm team, reporting to the Farm Manager. They are responsible for the effective running of our bi-weekly produce markets, leading a team of colleagues and youth to sell hyper-local veggies, flowers, and herbs grown on our schoolyard farm. They work with the Good Food team at markets and on the farm to achieve our production, sales and educational goals.

Responsibilities: 

• Lead our Wednesday and Saturday farmer’s markets
  • Build relationships with customers, colleagues, youth, and other vendors
  • Sell hyper-local produce, flowers, and herbs grown on our schoolyard farms
  • Lead and teach youth at market, creating a supportive atmosphere guided by anti-oppression values 
  • Maintain market tents, tables, scales, cash box, float and iPad
  • Report market sales to the Farm Manager and prepare bank deposits from market sales
• Lead CSA pickup and deliveries 
• With the Farm Team, grow Good Food on school grounds: crop production, field maintenance, and harvesting 
• Lead the organization and upkeep of our walk-in cooler, dry storage, produce inventory, cull rotation, food donations and totes
• Collaborate with other Fresh Roots teams on signage, marketing and communications

Qualifications 

• Experience leading teams, delegating, and training others
  • Experience working with teens a plus
• Excitement for creating visual displays, selling produce, and sharing food knowledge and stories
• 1-2 years sales/customer service experience
  • Previous experience with farmer's markets and/or cash handling preferred
• Excitement about farming and local food systems  
  • 1-2 years experience in gardening, farming or landscaping preferred
• Able to organize, multi-task, prioritize duties, problem-solve and remain flexible within a fast-paced and changing environment 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills across various mediums
• Able to work independently and as part of a small team 
• Able to carry out a variety of physical tasks that involve bending, squatting, lifting up to 50 lb, and repetitive motion
• Equipped, willing, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• BC Driver’s License Type 5 required; experience driving with trailers a plus
• Must pass a criminal record check to work with children and vulnerable populations
• Must meet Canada Summer Jobs Requirements

• Pay: $17.50-$20 per hour, plus 4% in lieu of vacation
