About the Role
CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle – mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.

CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

CASA’s Core mental health clinic is an amalgamation of two previously separate intake streams, Infant and Preschool Services and School Aged Services. The implementation of Core means one single stream of intake, no matter the age of the child. Through Core, we will continue to provide timely and high-quality mental health care to children and youth ages three to 17 and their families.

CASA is currently seeking Provisional Psychologists to join our Core team! Provisional Psychologists often spend up to $20,000 in pursuit of their supervised hours in order to become registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. At CASA, we have clinical supervisors in place, allowing you to complete your required supervisory hours with us, while gaining experiencing as mental health therapist. Provisional Psychologists will have the opportunity to complete their supervision plan with the support of their designated clinical supervisor at CASA.

Job Description
Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and reporting to the Clinical Manager of Core, the Provisional Psychologist will function as a Mental Health Therapist, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team members to ensure success in the area of clinical service delivery. The Provisional Psychologist provides timely mental health assessment and treatment to preschoolers, children and adolescents. The Provisional Psychologist adheres to the code of ethics and practice standards of the College of Alberta Psychologists, and applies the principles of evidence-informed practice to all aspects of this work. They nurture collaborative relationships with community partners.

The Provisional Psychologist will:

  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children and adolescents.

  • Develop a treatment plan and formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR and/or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.

  • Provide therapeutic interventions to support the client in achieving therapeutic goals utilizing a variety of developmentally-appropriate treatment approaches.

  • Facilitate psycho-educational and/or therapeutic groups for children and parents.

  • Carry out case management functions including: convening case conferences, liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the child and family (especially education, social services, justice and health).

  • Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate.

  • Be an active, contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment, treatment, case review and consultation.

  • Follow organizational policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.

  • Graduate degree with a major in psychology, or a graduate degree with content substantially equivalent to a graduate degree with a major in psychology as defined by the College of Alberta Psychologists.

  • Must have academic credentials previously approved by the College of Alberta Psychologists and have current Provisional Psychologist status.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems is an asset.

  • Current first aid and BLS- HCP is an asset.

  • Mental health first aid or ASIST training is an asset.

  • Current and clear Vulnerable Sector, Child Intervention and Criminal Records Check is required.
