The Stars for Life Foundation is looking for an experienced leader to fill the role of Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead the organisation and perform duties including finance, program development, fundraising, marketing, facilities management and acting as a liaison with multiple partners, interest groups and families. It is an exciting time of growth for the organisation as we expand our services and housing options. 

 

The Stars for Life Foundation for Autism is a Not-for-Profit Registered Charity, providing “Lifelong Living and Learning Opportunities” to young adults and adults with autism spectrum disorders and Asperger’s. This includes day programming, transitional and long-term housing and other initiatives aimed at keeping young people with autism spectrum disorder fully included in their community.

 

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Foster effective teamwork between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff
  • Provide financial oversight of the organisation including preparing budgets, managing contracts, payroll, bookkeeping, regular financial reporting, and legal compliance.
  • In addition to the President of the Board, act as a spokesperson for the organization. This includes the relationships with NGO’s, government partners, funding partners, families, and other interest groups
  • Lead the organisation of major fundraising initiatives
  • Secure the financial position of the organization by maintaining and seeking new agreements, submitting grant applications and fundraising
  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
  • Prepare monthly reports to the Board of Directors regarding corporate, human resources, legal, finance, program and health and safety operations and progress towards the goals of the Foundation.
  • Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its clients, their families, and the Board and Directors.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business Administration, a related field, or the equivalent experience
  • Training or experience working with adults with autism is an asset
  • 3-5 Years of experience with financial administration
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors, government officials, and stakeholder groups
  • Proven ability to build relationships and maintain positive working relationships with others
  • History of success with grant applications and fundraising
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of groups
  • Knowledge or experience with building maintenance
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Due to confidentiality, financial oversight, and vulnerable clients, a criminal record check as well as a vulnerable sector check is a requirement for employment
