Position Summary:

The Maintenance Worker works as part of a larger maintenance team to support the maintenance of a new 30- bed youth housing program as well as the maintenance needs of other PCRS sites in Surrey, BC. As the housing project will not be complete until the summer of 2023, the first 4-6 months will be working at other PCRS locations in the lower mainland. We are looking for someone who has direct experience in construction and/or building and maintenance support. The maintenance worker provides a variety of site duties to ensure our spaces are safe, welcoming and comfortable for our staff and participants.

Our ideal candidate has a passion for supporting vulnerable young people in our community. It is important to be self-motivated as a significant portion of this role you will be working alone. As you are part of a larger team it is also important that you are a team player who gains satisfaction when working with others to achieve team goals. As they may interact directly with youth in our programs it is important that you use a trauma-informed lens when working with young people. The successful candidate will have the ability to work in an atmosphere of respect and sensitivity.

Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Perform regular preventative maintenance duties with an eye for detail and delivery of quality workmanship with the ability to demonstrate preventative procedures to others
  • Must be comfortable with and have experienced working alone.
  • Well organized with excellent communication/listening skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management skills, forecasting timelines, working independently & problem solving
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills. Literate in Office 365, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
  • Familiar with function and diagnosis of basic electrical systems
  • Familiar with water, plumbing and waste management systems.
  • Confident changing out toilets and tanks and repairs as required.
  • Adept at wall repairs, painting, hanging doors and flooring system repairs
  • Excellent at the repair of and or sealing of bathroom sinks, bathtubs, and tile work
  • Must understand and use PPE, safety equipment, eye and head protection when appropriate
  • Support custodian with site cleaning and maintenance

Qualifications:

  • Trade Certifications in a related field and a minimum of five years’ experience in building and maintenance support or construction
  • A combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • A background in the not-for-profit sector is also an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel as well as e-mail            

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector.
  • Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid 19
  • Driver’s license and abstract
