Location: Toronto Wildlife Centre - Downsview Park (4-60 Carl Hall Rd., Toronto) with plans to move within the year to the Rouge National Urban Park (Scarborough)

Compensation: $41,000 - 47,000 annual salary
Background:
Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) is a registered charity that provides medical care and rehabilitation to sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. TWC is the busiest wildlife centre in Canada, admitting over 6,000 patients annually, with more than 270 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians represented. TWC’s veterinary team consists of one full-time and three part-time wildlife veterinarians, volunteer veterinary specialists, and four registered veterinary technicians who work closely with the rehabilitation, rescue and release departments to provide care to the animals at the centre. The veterinary hospital includes digital radiography, an in-house laboratory, an intensive care unit and a full surgical suite. Animals are treated at our primary location, and rehabilitation for some animals continues at the Rouge Park property in large outdoor enclosures.
Job Summary:
Oversees Toronto Wildlife Centre’s daily financial matters, in line with good practice and in accordance with our internal financial controls. This position is responsible for payroll management, accounts payable, financial reconciliations, and updating employee, bank, and other financial records.
Main Accountabilities:
- Assumes full responsibility for Ceridian payroll management, including but not limited to; updating and maintaining accurate employee payroll records, managing the Ceridian Power Pay and Dayforce data systems, entering timesheet hours/overtime/vacation/etc., and submitting bi-weekly salary and hourly payroll
- General Accounting support including Payroll and other journal entries in QuickBooks
- Manages the Employee benefits program
- Works with the donor relations team to lead the quarterly revenue reconciliation process
- Performs accounts payable duties, such as entering and paying invoices and maintaining vendor accounts and relationships
- Reconciles and manages bank accounts, credit card statements, and similar accounts
- Provides financial support and guidance to other staff and volunteers when requested
- Assists the Finance Manager with Board of Director reporting and other similar requirements
- Performs related duties as assigned by management
Job Qualifications:
Education:
- Minimum college degree or certificate in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll management, finance management or equivalent
- Certified Bookkeeper or similar financial certification preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of working experience in bookkeeping/accounting/finance or an equivalent environment
- Experience working within the charity sector strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to spend extended periods using a computer keyboard
- Requires extended periods of sitting
Working Conditions:
- This position requires working near materials and animals that may trigger allergic reactions
- Open office environment, with equipment noise and the possibility of frequent interruptions
- Required to walk on concrete floors in the building
- Some off-site work may be required
- Valid class G driver's license; preference may be given to candidates with a personal vehicle
