Communications Coordinator

Canadians for a Civil Society (CCS) is a non-profit organization committed to advancing human dignity, a culture of peace, and the full enjoyment of the human birthright to a life free of fear and want: the foundations of a Civil Society.

The Communications Coordinator works closely with senior leadership to educate and promote the benefits of a civil society to the community at large. This position has a wide variety of responsibilities and duties to ensure that our objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  1. Use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and building engagement and relationships with other organizations and key media personalities (35%-2.8hr/ week)
    2. Support the website and social media accounts by creating and writing regular content (35%-2.8hr/week)
    3. Pull media analytics and data, to complete a monthly communications report (10%-0.8 hr/week)
  2. Develop new readership and innovative ways to reach hard to reach or underserved groups (10%-0.8 hr/week)
  3. Collaborating with board members to ensure full understanding and knowledge of the organization's programs and initiatives in order to promote them on social media and website to the general public (10%-0.8 hr/week)


Qualification Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing, supplemented by related work experience
- 2-4 years experience working knowledge with marketing and communications
- Proven experience in delivering effective and engaging communications
- Experience in a not-for-profit environment is considered an asset
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills
- Computer and social media savvy
- Ability to effectively communicate with media, members, peers, and stakeholders
- Ability to balance priorities and multiple projects

 

Skills and Experience

  • WordPress, MailChimp and a proven track record building social media channels such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Primarily Sparkpost, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and/or Canva
  • Proficient with Google Analytics
  • Experience with wireframing and proposing digital media strategies


Hours of Work

- 8 hours per week

 

Salary

$20-$25 per hour (32 hours a month)
