Public Engagement & Development Specialist

Full-time (35 hrs/wk.), 6 Month Maternity Leave

 

HIV Edmonton is an inclusive and dynamic community-based organization dedicated to working with diverse communities in amiskwaciswâskahikan and across Treaty 6 territory. We aim to build awareness of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI), prevent new transmissions, help people living with HIV and other STBBI to live longer, healthier lives, and support community members without judgement, stigma, or discrimination.

The Public Engagement Specialist reports to and works closely with the Communications & Development Lead to coordinate HIV Edmonton’s fundraising and donor relations, media relations and communications content.  This position is a maternity leave replacement for the approximate duration of six (6) months. The underlying philosophy of HIV Edmonton’s Communications & Development Team is to:

  • Communicate the vision and mission of HIV Edmonton to community,
  • Actively engage the community in making our vision a reality,
  • Be impeccable and brave in our communication regarding all aspects of HIV and intersectional issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate fundraising activities, including donor relations, online and in-person
  • Media relations and social media content development for public facing awareness campaigns and activities
  • Support event delivery of public facing events and campaigns

This position may appeal to a candidate in the HIV Edmonton community or someone identifying from a disproportionally affected community. Incumbent to start March 2023.  Contract is 6 months with possibility of extension to December 2023.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years non-profit fundraising or events experience
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Knowledge of HIV and STBBI and messaging that eliminates stigma and racism
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and quality
  • Competency in computer software/databases
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work in a highly demanding role with flexibility and adaptability
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an integrated team environment

Salary:  $46,000 to $49,000 per annum with health benefits package plus RRSP contribution.
