People, Engagement & Learning Coordinator – Full Time, Permanent

Located in Vancouver or Toronto, with remote possible

MakeWay builds partnerships and solutions to help nature and communities thrive together. We are made up of two legal charitable entities: MakeWay Charitable Society, a shared platform home to over 65+ innovative community-led projects staffed by 170+ change makers; and MakeWay Foundation where about 75 people are advancing place-based programs that support Indigenous-led solutions and conservation in the North, Pacific, Manitoba, and beyond via grant-making, funder collaboratives and other tools.  Our people, projects, and partners are based across the country.

 

We are looking for a new team member who will bring strong administrative skills to the People, Engagement and Learning (PEL) department. The PEL Coordinator is approachable and has a proactive focus on support and employee experience while understanding and reflecting the values and culture of MakeWay. The People, Engagement and Learning Coordinator reports to the People, Engagement and Learning Manager and is an integral part of the People, Engagement and Learning team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the PEL team to ensure that the department is providing excellent employee experience
  • Responsible for the creation of employment contracts in compliance with provincial legislation and MakeWay policy and practices
  • Oversee and provide all administrative support for the PEL department including responding to queries and requests, preparing new hire documents, change letters, verification letters, and employment contracts
  • Organize and maintain all HR records by keeping accurate, and up to date records, files, and templates
  • Manage employee inquiries and requests through our PEL inbox and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with teams and staff to ensure all new hire forms are completed in timely manner for payroll submission
  • Assign training modules to staff on HR Downloads and keep system up to date with departures
  • Coordinate and participate in various PEL programs and initiatives as assigned by PEL Manager
  • Maintain strict confidentiality

Who You Are:

  • Detail-oriented individual: You excel at tasks that require a high level of precision and you address errors and inconsistencies when you see them
  • A reliable team member: You have a positive and proactive attitude and are able to follow through issues to resolution with meticulous attention to detail and know when to escalate issues
  • A great communicator: You are helpful and friendly on the phone and your emails are clear and informative
  • Extremely organized: You are able to manage a high volume of requests in a timely manner and have an ability to anticipate, plan, and deliver exceptional support

Experience You Bring:

  • Alignment with the values of MakeWay
  • Minimum 2 years previous HR experience
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Employment Standards Acts
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Word

It Would be a Bonus if You Have:

  • Experience in the charitable/non-profit sector
  • Experience supporting human resources for a national organization
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce and HR Downloads
