Position Description
Department: JOIN/ Speqtrum
Reports to: Director of Services - Child, Youth & Developmental Programs
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Location: Hamilton, ON
Start Date: April 3, 2023
Contract End Date: June 30, 2023

- Supporting newcomer and immigrant LGBTQ+ youth in Hamilton to form and maintain healthy relationships with their peers and community;
- Responsible for planning, promoting, and facilitating regular events per month;
- Event planning - Coordinate logistics, like transportation (bus tickets and rideshare), purchasing supplies as needed, budgeting and managing expenses;
- Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved;
- Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships, and liaising with community stakeholders;
- Maintains high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, employee and contract information;
- Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved;
- Implements appropriate program guidelines and procedures/templates for program to ensure consistency and excellence;
- Provides program reports to Manager as required;
- Understands and incorporates emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton and Speqtrum’s mission, vision and values;
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and experience with group or workshop facilitation;
- Lived experience with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities required;
- Experience assisting newcomers and immigrants;
- Demonstrated knowledge of working from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework/practice;
- Knowledge of immigrant and settlement services is an asset;
- Knowledge of Hamilton’s 2SLGBTQ+ communities and Hamilton resources preferred;
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate, or willingness to obtain (paid for by YWCA Hamilton);
- Ability to motivate and encourage participation from participants, while respecting limits and boundaries;
- Committed to creating spaces for ALL 2SLGBTQIA youth, and can identify and mitigate barriers to participation, such as racism, ableism, classism, etc.;
- Ability to bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to work;
- Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset;
- Ability to work a schedule which includes days, early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends based on program needs;
- Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost.
