POSITION SUMMARY

Indigenous Climate Action is seeking a confident, experienced, motivated, and passionate Development Manager to ensure that ICA has necessary funding to function. 

In collaboration with the Associate Director, the Development Manager creates and implements a long-term strategic plan for fundraising and major gifts, managing the Development team staff to undertake annual workplans and collaborate with other key stakeholders within the organization.

At this time we are looking for someone who wants to take our fundraising strategy to a level of sustainability by prioritizing donors and fundraising strategies within the values of decolonizing philanthropy.

The Development Manager duties are as follows:

  • Work in collaboration with the Executive Director, Associate Director, Development and Finance Team to develop a long-term fundraising strategy to support the vision and mission of ICA.  
  • Provide oversight management and guidance to Development Team staff to achieve funding development goals.
  • Oversee fundraising processes to ensure effective grant writing, researching of foundations and corporations, partnership development and effective communications.
  • Create and maintain positive partnership relationships.
  • Participate in strategic communications and engagement opportunities.
  • Oversee and craft funding reports, including public communications for audits and annual reports.
  • Collaborate with other ICA Directors and report to the Steering Committee when required
  • Attend Managers Meetings and contributing to ICA”s overall management strategies and practices 
  • Participate in Stewardship Pod Team meetings and strategy sessions. 
  • Liaise with the Nourishment Pod for financial processing and tracking of resources and funds. 
  • Ensuring collaborations with all Pods to ensure transparency and opportunities for fundraising 
  • Hiring and managing of development staff and contractors 
  • Other assigned duties

 

Qualifications and Core Competencies 

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work and/or educational experience with fundraising and nurturing donor relations. Certification in fundraising management considered a strong asset 
  • 2 - 5 years of proven grant and proposal writing skills or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated positive experience with diverse donors
  • Ability to get curious and stay solution oriented when faced with challenges;
  • Fantastically personable and a good communicator; 
  • Embodies what it means to move at the speed of trust;
  • A work style that is collaborative and not extractive
  • Knowledge of non-profit work program development and budget creation
  • Ability to manage and supervise a small team of staff and contractors
  • Ability to take direction, push for clarity on work goals and undertake strategies  independently with little or no supervision
  • Computer literate including google programs, excel and other budgetary programs
  • Ability to travel 
  • Member of an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language an asset

 

The position is full time and entails a 35 hour work week, however we strive to work 30 hours per week most weeks as per ICA’s Four Day work week policy. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations. A Criminal Record Check along with Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks are required conditions of employment. ICA can assist with this process if need be. 

 

SALARY: $70,000 to $85,000 per annum depending on qualifications
