The Finance Department is a part of the Administration team providing support to the programs of House of Friendship. We are seeking an energetic and independent individual who will be responsible for all aspects of the monthly accounting cycle; including preparation of internal financial statements in support of program management with particular emphasis on project/grant accounting. The successful candidate will assist with various other aspects of the financial management of the agency including budget preparation, fundraising, cash management, internal and external reporting and financial systems and controls.

 

** This is a full-time, permanent, salaried position with paid sick time, personal days and vacation; group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan.

This role offers 37.5 hours per week; primarily daytime, weekday hours.

Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required to support House of Friendship events.

Work may be performed in a home office for some of the weekly hours. **

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out month-end financial allocations, journal entries, reconciliations and preparation of internal financial statements for numerous operating and non-operating funds with emphasis on projects/grants
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc analysis and reports in support of program management
  • Review and administrate revenue and expense contracts
  • Provide financial and administrative support for all fundraising activities
  • Responsible for system configuration and data integrity for accounting system
  • Assist in preparation of budgets and financial analysis; prepare financial reporting to funders
  • Coordinate year-end activities and schedules in preparation for year-end audit
  • Contribute to establishing and maintaining adequate financial procedures and controls to minimize financial risk
  • Provide support to the Finance Manager / Financial Director with other projects/tasks as assigned

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field with, or working towards, a CPA (or equivalent) designation
  • Minimum five years hands-on accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit sector; fund-accounting experience considered an asset
  • Current knowledge of payroll processing and knowledge of Financial Edge NXT considered an asset
  • Organized, meticulous, accurate and thorough work habits
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills; strong ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines, with strong attention to details
  • Significant experience in accounting systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Knowledge and familiarity with legislation and practices relating to registered charities is preferred
  • Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
  • Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members
  • Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs
  • Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude
  • Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges
  • Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping

 

Rate of Pay:

At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of “grades” and we base our payment structure on internal equity. When determining rate of pay, a candidate’s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience are currently on the pay grid. 

Note: Most new team members will start somewhere between the start rate and the mid point of the range.

Min: $26.50
Mid: $30.41
Max: $34.32

 

Working Conditions:

  • 5 hours per week, generally daytime, weekday hours
  • Work may be performed in a home office for some of the weekly hours
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required to support House of Friendship events
  • Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected

 

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy:

To maintain the safety of staff and participants, House of Friendship has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. All Staff hired after October 19, 2021 are required to provide proof of being Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 as a pre-condition of their employment or placement offer. If an individual is unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19, they will be required to submit written proof verifying a medical reason or by submitting a request under the Ontario Human Rights Code and agree to regular Rapid Antigen Testing at least two times per week. When documentation has been received and approved, House of Friendship will provide accommodation up to the point of undue hardship in compliance with the OHRC and may follow up to receive further information and/or documentation as required. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the immediate revocation of an offer of employment.
