Role Overview

Reporting into the Executive Director, Brand Marketing & Change the Conversation, this new role of Manager, Creative Services is responsible for overseeing the timely delivery of marketing and communications campaigns and tactics, as well as managing vendor (agency) partnerships with multidisciplinary specialists, while adhering to and championing the DC brand positioning.

The Manager, Creative Services will integrate best practices to coordinate DC’s marketing and communication priorities and workflows to ensure on-time delivery of marketing and communication projects to help grow familiarity of the DC brand nationally amongst our various audience segments.

The Manager, Creative Services will lead the internal design and copy team and will oversee development of both in-house and externally developed marketing and communications projects for all of DC. This Manager must also proactively consult and develop ideas of how to bring our brand to life through advertising, social and design, working collaboratively with MarComm Leads and Business Unit leads (Fundraising, Mission, Enablement) to achieve shared functional and organizational-wide business metrics.

Location: 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely and with the expectation of being in-office.

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Lead Diabetes Canada’s new internal agency model to deliver innovative marketing and communications plans and execute with excellence related deliverables
  • Develop efficient and transparent creative services processes, workflows, creative briefs, and determine sourcing requirements
  • Maintain the DC-wide integrated marketing and communications calendar, ensuring it is current, and proactively optimizing touchpoints by audience and by channel; brokering a decision-tree to ensure priority optimal number of touches
  • Proactively identifying, creating, and managing key stakeholder personas and journeys
  • Oversee delivery of creative outputs to our internal clients (Business Units) and to the paid media outlets
  • Ensure that all creative vendor (agency) relationships are optimized to deliver effective and impactful deliverables
  • Develop an understanding of short and long-term Business Unit goals and future planned initiatives, and translate these business requirements into creative deliverables
  • Proactively adjust project work back schedules and deliver timely feedback/guidance to project leads to address changes in project scope, external environment, and schedules
  • Schedule and participate in meetings with Business Unit teams to discuss new creative projects, broker internal approvals, and provide related Creative Services training
  • Empower the Project Manager to deliver all marketing and communication initiatives in scope, on time and on budget
  • Oversee the Design and Production Specialist in the execution of effective and on-brand design for various marketing and communication materials across platforms as required, this includes working with designer, content team and vendor (agency) partners to coordinate services
  • Stay current in market and industry trends to aid in the development of cutting-edge marketing, digital and advertising creative concepts and call to actions (CTAs)
  • Delivering campaign materials for Banting House, a DC-owned property.
  • Other marketing duties and responsive projects, as required

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • 6+ years’ experience in marketing function preferably working in an agency or for a major brand with multiple stakeholders
  • 3+ years managing direct reports
  • Experience overseeing multiple and competing projects simultaneously
  • A collaborative mentality, leading with empathy, understanding and fairness
  • Ability to support and coach a team of two full time staff
  • Flexibility and adaptability; someone who can identify both obstacles that need immediate fixing, as well as the opportunities that can lead to accelerated growth
  • Ability to manage and implement feedback, and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and external agencies
  • Proven ability to think strategically, adding value to campaign development in ways that drive results
  • Exceptional skills at building relationships, collaborating with others, and providing a supportive environment to foster innovative thinking
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media, social media, as well as traditional mass marketing and communication channels
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit sector an asset
