Anti-Violence Worker (one-year contract with possibility to renew)
For women who want to join the women’s liberation movement!
We are looking for energetic women who are not afraid to mop the floor, sit with a woman through a rape kit or argue with a police officer, sometimes all in the same day. You will do a combination of work required to operate a 24-hour rape crisis centre and a shelter for battered women and their children. We are a feminist organization run by a collective. In addition to a rape crisis centre and shelter we provide support, education and action groups; recruit and train volunteers; raise money and initiate public discussion about sexist violence. You will adapt quickly to this unique job situation that will require your best empathy skills, thinking skills and determination to be someone that makes a difference. You will be challenged and supported to think and act effectively on behalf of raped, sexually exploited, and battered women. Skills we are looking for include basic office skills, ability to learn about social services, community services, and current events. You are resourceful and take initiative. You can think and speak independently and apply your knowledge effectively. You will have a collaborative mindset and assist your co-workers (volunteer and paid) to do their best work.
Education credentials will only be valued as much as work and life experience. We are especially, but not only, interested in applications from Indigenous women, working class women, women of colour and lesbian women.
Work hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Salary: $2,511.70 (gross) semi-monthly. Extended health benefits offered following three months probation period.
