POSITION: Youth Support Worker, Full-time

HOURS: Rotating Continental Shift, 2 Weeks Day (7 a.m. - 7 p.m.)then 2 Weeks Overnight (7 p.m. - 7 a.m.) Must work both day/overnight shifts.

WAGE: $20/ per hour

REPORTS TO: Supportive Housing Manager

 

OBJECTIVE:
Youth Support Worker will provide administrative and operational support for Wyndham House programs and is an integral part of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all clients, in addition to prioritizing safety and security.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for our clients
  • Follow policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of all clients
  • Implement onsite programming and support
  • Assist clients with skills development, using a strength-based approach
  • Participate in case management as identified
  • Provide crisis and behavioural interventions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete administration duties related to clients entering our Transitional Housing and Permanent Supportive Housing Programs
  • Follow safety, security, and policy procedures while supervising spaces occupied by clients
  • Respect clients' privacy rights and adhere to strict confidentiality policies and laws
  • Respond to requests for information about support services available to young persons experiencing a housing crisis
  • Maintain a standardized level of cleanliness for sites and related programing events
  • Accurately record, complete, and file confidential client documents
  • Participate in ongoing assessment of clients’ needs and strengths while working with Case Managers, in order to support the clients in reaching their goals and providing various supports with community providers
  • Participate in our food and nutrition program; meal planning (i.e.- create ingredient lists, grocery shopping, and meal preparation)
  • Facilitate and record clients' access to medication
  • Provide support and crisis intervention for clients experiencing physical and mental health emergencies
  • Update personal needs allowance records on a weekly basis
  • Execute fire and safety drills in accordance with government and organizational requirements
  • Accurately document site security checks, petty cash, and shift inventory logs
  • Participate in organization and individual planning meetings and implement changes
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supportive Housing Manager
  • Work a minimum 36 hours per week and maximum 44 hours per week

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion and commitment to an inclusive workplace; respecting and valuing the diversity of every individual
  • CYW diploma/ or related degree strongly preferred
  • 2 - 3 years of residential care facility experience
  • 1 - 2 year working with youth and/or marginalized populations an asset

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • CPR / First Aid level C
  • Criminal Reference Check, including vulnerable persons
  • Must be willing to commute or relocate to Guelph, Ontario
