JOB SUMMARY

The Graphic Designer, Marketing & Communications (MarComm) is responsible for the creative conceptualization, design and production of all print and digital marketing and communications assets for all Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) program areas and departments.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS                            

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing Communications, this position works closely with the MarComm team and liaises with all RHF program areas and departments as well as external production partners.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Graphic Design

  • Lead and execute the creative, design and production of all RHF print, digital, and video assets including stewardship reports and proposals, annual reports, infographics, social media and website graphics, newsletters, emails, digital and print ads, collateral, signage, lesson plans, presentations, and videos;
  • Update and maintain the RHF brand guidelines and help ensure they are followed and effectively communicate a consistent visual brand identity;
  • Contribute proactive, creative recommendations for print and digital communications in alignment with brand guidelines;
  • Source photography and accurately archive photos in the RHF digital asset management system; and
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time by managing production schedules.

Accessible Communications

  • Ensure all communications are accessible and meet universal design requirements;
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of best practices in accessible design; and
  • Work with the RHF Accessibility Specialist to provide leadership and help to educate RHF staff and production partners on the accessibility of print, digital, and video resources.

Production

  • Lead pre-press production of materials, and liaise with printers / suppliers to oversee the printing / production processes including sourcing quotes, collaborating on appropriate materials, proofs, press checks and delivery; and
  • Maintain positive relationships with printers and other external production partners.

Other

  • Actively participate in cross-functional team meetings and contribute proactive suggestions with regards to creative communication concepts, look and feel and communication effectiveness and processes;
  • Ensure all communication assets are filed and archived efficiently;
  • Help provide direction to external photographers and videographers; and
  • Perform other related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree or diploma in Art Direction, Graphic Design or a related discipline.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in a print and digital design-related function;
  • Demonstrated visual creativity with the integration of typographic, photographic, illustrative and graphic elements that have contributed to positive business results;
  • Computer proficiency including with MS Office;
  • Proficiency with Mac-based design applications for in-house production, including Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and Acrobat;
  • Knowledge of graphic file formats, pre-press and print production methods;
  • Knowledge of accessible communications design;
  • Photography and video editing skills considered an asset;
  • Understanding of fundraising-related communication design best practices in the nonprofit sector considered an asset; and
  • Knowledge of issues related to people with disabilities considered an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, experience and skills/behaviors will be considered.
