Location:       Abbotsford

 

As a support worker for an individualized service, you will support and assist a person with diverse abilities and critical health care needs in their family home.

 

You must have the desire and capacity to support people with diverse abilities and must believe that the person receiving support is uniquely valuable.

 

This is a permanent full-time position available immediately.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of your role, you must have the ability to work independently. The following list of job duties and responsibilities are some of the duties that you may do in your day.

  • Provide a creative and innovative service for a person who has varying levels of abilities and disabilities. This includes facilitating support for health needs in the community and at home; involvement with family and friends, and providing a modified activity schedule to suit the person supported.
  • Document the care and daily health needs of the person being supported and report changes in status to the supervisor and family.
  • Accompany the person to medical or other specialist appointments.
  • Be attentive to the level of stress in the life of the person and assist in providing help to moderate the stress.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A heart to serve people with diverse abilities and their families.
  • A philosophy of care in line with Bethesda’s Christian foundations and guiding principles.
  • Possession of Canadian, landed immigrant or legal working status.
  • Standard requirements for support workers employed in BC (Criminal Record Check, Medical Clearance, Class 4 Driver’s Licence (can be hired with Class 5 licence and must obtain Class 4), Tuberculosis Screening, ICBC Driving Record, Immunization Records/History).
  • Full COVID-19 immunization.
  • Confidentiality with respect to people receiving our services and the operations of Bethesda.
  • Must display strong abilities to support complex health care needs.
  • Education/training and/or experience as a care aide is an asset.
