The ALS Society of Alberta is a charitable organization dedicated to making each day the best possible day for people living with and affected by ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). We achieve our mission by providing support, facilitating the provision of care, promoting awareness, helping find a cure and advocating for change.

 

Position:

The ALS Society of Alberta is seeking a Manager of Fundraising and Communications to join the team based out of the Calgary office.   The Manager will be responsible for the major events in Alberta, community events, other fundraising initiatives and with key responsibilities for the strategic communication plan for the Society.

 

Key Accountabilities

The Manager of Fundraising and Events will be accountable for  the development and implementation of the strategic fundraising and communications plan for the Society.

A goal-oriented self-starter who is passionate about supporting our families affected by ALS and committed to the success of the Society. The Manager will enjoy supporting our volunteers, donors and sponsors in hosting our events across Alberta.  

 

A key component of the role will be managing the various aspects of the website, social media, fundraising websites and other collateral materials. The ideal candidate will strive for excellence when working with our families, donors, peers and colleagues.

Methodical and consistent, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy, the Manager of Fundraising and Communications will work with a high degree of integrity and accountability.  A proactive communicator, the successful candidate will anticipate challenges and engage colleagues as needed.

The Manager of Fundraising and Communications must be willing to work evenings and weekends and able to travel throughout Alberta. 

 

Key Competencies:

  • Proven event experience.
  • Exceptional writing, time management, planning, and organizational skills, with an emphasis on detail and accuracy.
  • Outstanding verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills working with various stakeholders within and external to the organization.
  • A professional and superior client-service approach.
  • Demonstrated experience with successful grant applications and proposal development.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of online payment portal system.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and curating content.
  • Advanced writing skills.

 

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree

 

Background of Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years event, marketing and communicaitons experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in project management;
  • Mastery of various Microsoft Office applications;
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Alberta as needed;
