Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Volunteer Engagement will lead the integration of the volunteer vision and commitment across all functions of the organization. Key activities will include execution of the volunteer engagement strategy that includes, oversight and accountability of recruitment activities, onboarding, training, regular communication with, and acknowledgement and stewardship of the full range of Diabetes Canada volunteers

Location: 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. A flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely and opportunity to work in-office. Employee must meet the needs of the National Team.

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Create, lead and implement the volunteer engagement strategy in a manner that ensures full integration with Diabetes Canada, while empowering different functions to develop and implement complementary and effective volunteer engagement strategies tied to there their specific activities.
  • Provide direction to internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate engagement of volunteers to best support Diabetes Canada, including collaboration and partnering with community leaders, agencies and industry.
  • Ensure effective and transparent communication takes places by acting as the liaison between volunteers and each of Diabetes Canada’s functions.
  • Develop the annual volunteer engagement plan, including post implementation evaluation and feedback. 
  • Identify and incorporate volunteer engagement KPIs as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement appropriate policies to facilitate full volunteer engagement.
  • Leverage events and initiatives such as Volunteer Awards, International Volunteer Day and National Volunteer Week to enable a robust system of recognition for the highly valued volunteers as part of the overall volunteer engagement strategy.
  • Develop and facilitate an annual Volunteer Engagement survey to gather feedback and make recommendations for adaptations and improvements for the volunteer program.
  • Build and manage a cross-organizational volunteer engagement team to deliver Diabetes Canada’s Volunteer Programs and achieve targets.
  • Develop, administer, and be accountable for the volunteer engagement program budget.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • 5+ years volunteer management experience at a national level
  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent experience.
  • Volunteer Management program certificate is an asset
  • Experience working with CRM systems and demonstrated ability to utilize these systems to appropriately document volunteer activities and maintain ongoing communication
  • Familiarity with Imagine Canada’s Standards for Charities and Not-for Profits, the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement and other industry standard documentation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and achieve success through collaborative models
  • Continued active membership in a National, Provincial or Local Association of Volunteer Administrators is an asset
  • Highly collaborative and partnership-oriented
  • Tenacious with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative and proven ability to solve problems independently
