We are a group of professionals who have worked together to build an organization imploring youth to work with the community to help strengthen the refugee and immigrant population through unity and integration. Founded in December 2015, we embarked on a journey to re-establish the way nonprofits work, and to strengthen the communities they are involved with. We believe that modern day obstacles and problems need modern day solutions, thus the creation of The Refugee Centre and its sister NPO DevBloc.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years experience working in fundraising for nonprofit organizations as a board member
• Network of prospective donors and people interested in supporting refugees
• Previous experience serving on a Board is an asset
• Passion and knowledge in serving the nonprofit sector specifically related to refugee - related services
• Solid understanding of the refugee/ immigrant / newcomer population in Montreal
• We are interested in diversifying our board with people from the legal, medical, financial and social service sectors, but welcome people who think they are good fits from all sectors to apply
• Immigrants to Canada and refugees are more than welcome to apply for the position.

Responsibilities

• Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s mission and programs
• Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports, and other documentation required to actively participate in them
• Attend monthly board meetings
• Participate actively in fundraising activities - namely introduction to potential sponsors
• Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect refugees and asylum seekers in Canada
• Avoid any potential conflicts of interest
• Understand and maintain confidentiality
