Inclusion Facilitator - Inclusive Post-Secondary Education at TWU

Temporary Summer position (8-12 weeks)

ASAP – June 30 2023

(Extension of contract to may be possible, contingent on funding)

25.5 hours per week, $24.00/h

 

The purpose of this position is to support TWU students with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities with career development opportunities during their summer break from academics at TWU, including directly supporting the students and their workplaces. In the role, the inclusion facilitator works with the employer to create a supportive and inclusive workplace.  The facilitator may accompany the student to their workplace and provide support to the student to enhance the training provided by the employer. The goal of the inclusion facilitator is to phase out as the student learns the job and becomes confident working independently and interdependently with their co-workers. The role is dynamic and multi-faceted and will require travel to various locations in and around Langley, depending on where students are working.

 

Key responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate relationships between the student and their trainer, supervisor, and co-workers that encourage others to include the student in reciprocal and meaningful ways
  2. Assist the student in any tasks required to enable them to be included, which may include identifying strategies, job modifications, and some personal support relevant to their job
  3. Supporting students in their workplace, and other locations as relevant to their employment and other roles
  4. Maintaining ongoing communication with students, and their supervisors, and employers during and after phasing out of on-site support
  5. Working with the team of TWU Inclusion facilitators, to coordinate, and to identify new career building opportunities the student may want to pursue over the summer
  6. Building strong and respectful relationships with the student, their family, their employer, and colleagues

 

Key Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. A steadfast belief and commitment to inclusion, and the right for all people to belong and contribute
  2. The ability to notice qualities of empowerment, and disempowerment and critically reflect on power imbalance
  3. Creative thinking
  4. The ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to employ effective time management skills
  5. The ability to commute to various locations in and around Langley as the role requires
  6. TWU students/alumni will be given preference for the role
  7. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination, and a criminal record check is required upon hiring
