Catholic Social Services is currently recruiting for a part time (18.75 hours per week) Cross-Cultural Counsellor for our Immigration and Settlement Service. 

Job Summary: 

Be an agent of change and growth in the lives of Newcomers to Canada. As a Cross-Cultural Counsellor, you will play a major role in the lives of individuals, couples and families as they adjust, adapt and integrate into life in a new country. Throughout your career, you have developed strong cross-cultural counselling skills. Working within a defined therapeutic counselling framework (for example, cognitive behavioural or solution-focused therapy), you use your analytical skills to correctly assess client needs and work with clients to develop and achieve therapeutic goals. You are currently well-networked with community based resources. You are able to think globally about complex issues within a trauma-informed perspective. While you are self-motivated, resourceful and comfortable working alone, you understand the need for collaboration and work well with your supervisor and peers to discuss problems and alternative strategies for clients.

You are a compassionate professional who is committed to excellence in the prevention and treatment of mental distress. Your demonstrated expertise in the areas of adjustment, anxiety and depression, family dynamics and relationship issues, family violence, grief and loss, stress management, suicide intervention and trauma would serve you well in this position. You are comfortable working with all ages(i.e. children, youth, adults and seniors). You are an experienced group facilitator in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual environment.

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling equivalent and are registered with your respective regulatory body. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in cross-cultural counselling is preferred; Previous experience providing counselling required
  • Fluent in English – both spoken and written
  • Demonstrated experience with group facilitation in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual environment would be an asset
  • Superior communication, computer, organizational and time-management skills
