POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the policy and engagement lead in the communications and public affairs department, the policy coordinator will support the core activities of the policy team including the policy (practice standards and professional guidelines) development and review process, research, coordinating consultation and engagement activities, data analysis and writing. The ideal candidate has experience dealing with highly visible and scrutinized policy issues, and is a diligent, focused and detail-oriented professional with superior written and oral communication skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

As a core member of the policy team, the policy coordinator will support all elements of the policy development and review process. Responsibilities include:

  • conducting research to support the policy review and development process (literature reviews, cross-jurisdictional research and environmental scans)
  • tracking relevant internal data to support the policy review and development process
  • contributing to the preparation and management of consultation and engagement with stakeholders (such as drafting survey questions, building surveys and organizing focus groups)
  • analyzing survey results (such as by conducting a thematic analysis of written feedback)
  • preparing written reports, briefing notes and presentations for the Board and committees
  • assisting with the development of educational resources for the public and registrants
  • drafting announcements and social media posts regarding new or revised policies
  • tracking policy revisions, ensuring proper version control and archiving
  • other related duties as needed

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • relevant post-secondary degree 
  • one to three years of related experience, preferably in a regulatory environment, government, or BC’s health care system
  • experience working effectively with all levels of the organization, and as part of a team 
  • excellent research, writing and presentation skills 
  • able to establish effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external partners
  • able to objectively analyze data, including large qualitative data sets (ability to conduct quantitative data analysis would be considered an asset)
  • excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • proficiency in producing spreadsheets, flowcharts, project plans, templates, presentations
  • willing to take initiative, be resourceful, and fulfill the responsibilities of the position with a positive attitude
  • excellent time management skills to prioritize and complete assignments and schedule activities; self-motivated and self-sufficient; work well independently
