Position Summary  

Kelowna Gospel Mission (KGM) is a faith-based non-profit organization committed to feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and helping the hurting. We are seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join our rapidly growing team. The primary purpose of this position is to assist and take direction from the Kitchen Coordinator in food preparation service for Kelowna’s Gospel Mission. The ideal candidate is a passionate, organized, people person who thrives in a diverse environment and loves helping those in need. 

Schedule for this role is - Saturday and Sunday 10am to 6pm 

Key Responsibilities  

• Enforce proper sanitation and preparation practices and procedures 
• Ensuring the training of volunteers in the preparation, cooking, and safe handling of food 
• Support in food preparation for special events (i.e., Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) 
• Assist in the preparation of food in sufficient quantities for serving multiple sites and sending out to other sites 
• Model KGM values of Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Grace-led, & Transformation 
• Maintain an excellent relationship with all residents, volunteers, and employees wherever possible while being observant of the Policy and Procedures of KGM 
• Perform other related duties as required 

Position Requirements  

• Completion of High School Diploma as a minimum 
• Verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records 
• In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety requirements 
• Ability to work well with volunteers and provide direction 
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products 
• Valid driver's license and clean driving abstract 
• This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).
