Reports to: Senior Manager, Centre of Innovation

Hours of Work:  30 hours per week

Start Date:  July 4, 2023

Contract End Date: August 25, 2023

Posting Date: May 3, 2023

Location:  Hamilton, ON

 

  • Inspires a culture of entrepreneurship by providing encouraging and helpful individual small business information to local women entrepreneurs including new start-ups, youth and potential business expansions opportunities;
  • Act as part of a team responsible for the planning and executing BOTB Market space and events for small business owners and entrepreneurs;
  • Responsible to contribute to maintenance of BOTB Market and encouraging it’s use amongst our business community;
  • Work in partnership other department staff responsible including those responsible for the delivery of women’s entrepreneurship programs;
  • Foster strong partnership with local BIAs, post Secondary Institutions and Chambers of Commerce Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved; reporting results to Manager;
  • Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards and focuses on providing relevant information and supports for women entrepreneurs;
  • Connects and assists in building strong and positive relationships with clients in a cohesive and respectful environment;
  • Works safely reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton’s policies and procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act and participates in annual health and safety training provided by the YWCA;
  • Works with limited pieces of client confidential data and ensures that such data is stored in accordance with YWCA policies;
  • Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
  • Performs other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works 30 hours work week;
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in post-secondary business, entrepreneurship, communication marketing or related discipline (or equivalent experience);
  • Current knowledge of business-related software and technology;
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with a passion for helping others;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills;
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer functions;
  • Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must provide a current Criminal record Judicial Matters or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.

This is a temporary summer position which is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria of the program to be considered:

  • Must be between the ages of 15-30 years on the first day of employment;
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
