NOTEThis position is provided in partnership with Canada Summer Jobs. Eligible applicants MUST:

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 30 years at the start of their employment at Archway;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, immigrant, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are NOT eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

 

The Canada Summer Jobs program objectives are to:

  • provide quality experiences for youth;
  • respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers to employment, i.e., youth who are early leavers of high school, not in employment, education or training; black and other racialized youth; youth with disabilities; Indigenous youth; and
  • provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills.

Job Summary:

 

The Landscape Laborer is responsible for maintaining the Compost Demonstration Garden and the greenhouse plants. Additionally, the Landscape Laborer will conduct outdoor composting classes and assist in event set-up, attend events, and take down event materials.

 

Your Role:

 

Archway’s Landscape Labourer with the Recycling Program contributes by:

  • Assisting in maintaining the Compost Demonstration Garden, including:
    • Ensuring the maintenance of native species.
    • Conducting outdoor composting classes.
    • Maintaining greenhouse plants.
    • Upkeep weeding, watering, and planting.
  • Participating in general community events, including:
    • Assisting in event set-up.
    • Organizing and attending events.
    • Conducting education sessions to the general public about composting.
    • Dismantling event materials.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working outdoors gardening, composting, and talking to the public about garden projects.  

 

Our Offer

  • Wage: $17.60 per hour
  • A full-time position at 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Temporary for 8 weeks, starting June 26, 2023.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • A high school diploma is an asset.
  • A post-secondary education in Agriculture or Science is an asset.
  • Experience working outdoors or participating in school-based gardening or field work.
  • Experience with gardening or working on a farm.
  • Experience in conducting physical work.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Knowledge of looking after plants to sustain them.
  • Ability to work independently within a team to self start garden projects.
  • Ability to work outside daily in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to take on physical labour related to garden maintenance and crop production.
  • Ability to switch tasks to meet priorities.
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
  • Eligibility for the Canada Summer Jobs Program - Must be between 16 to 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • International students are NOT eligible participants, including anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
