The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society is a not-for-profit cultural organization that operates the internationally acclaimed Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) and the Vancity Theatre, located in the VIFF Centre. Working under the guidance of the Marketing Manager, the Marketing Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication initiatives that elevate the engagement of audiences with the film and event programming taking place during the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival. Running September 28-October 8, 2023, the 42nd edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival will showcase 120 features and 100 shorts from around the world, along with a line-up of talks, conferences, and creative development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a community outreach and engagement plan that integrates with VIFF’s strategic priorities and values, including principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Identify, initiate and nurture mutually beneficial partnerships with community and cultural organizations, members, educational representatives, and media to raise the profile of the festival program.
Manage community engagement activities including initiation and implementation of cooperative marketing and promotional activities with individuals, special interest groups, cultural and educational community representatives.
Coordinate the cultivation, management, and fulfillment of partnership agreements with community. outreach and media partners, using Salesforce database to track and process.
Assist in the coordination of event access and ticketing for community groups.
Assist with the coordination, production, and distribution of various communications materials (digital graphics, eblasts, webpages, printed collateral, signage, videos, event slides and presentations) to support the promotion of the Festival programming. Production includes copywriting, briefing designers and content creators, liaising with printers and external vendors, file management and distribution to stakeholders.
Ensure communication materials are compliant and align with the VIFF’s visual identity and brand standards.
Assess, monitor, and report on trends in community participation in engagement initiatives; analyze audience and partner feedback through the coordination of post-event debriefs, surveys and metrics, aligning with the organization’s reporting requirements.
Contribute to the management of community communication channels, including email, phone, social media, and online forums.
Collaborate interdepartmentally with programmers, sponsorship, membership, ticketing, graphic designers, community engagement and marketing to establish and fulfill objectives and strategy.
Qualifications:
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
Self-motivated, with demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
Excellent written communication skills. Ability to adapt writing styles for various platforms and audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
Knowledge of graphic and web design principles. Adobe Creative Suite experience is an asset.
Interest and/or experience working in film, contemporary arts and culture.
Familiarity with communication tools like Slack, Outlook, Zoom, Teams, social media platforms, email marketing programs (MailChimp), CRM (FileMaker, Salesforce), Ticketing software (Elevent).
Access to reliable internet and computer.
Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends.
