Trail Support Coordinator

Job Description / Responsibilities

The project will increase the capacity of community trail group volunteers in NS who are struggling to keep up with trail maintenance, keep their organizations going and find funding for their trails. It will help Hike NS better support these groups in being more effective in providing safe trails for a wider diversity of people across the province.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Trail Support Coordinator will carry out the following tasks:

Conduct an in-depth needs assessment of trail groups
Develop a detailed work plan for the year
Develop fundraising plans and tools
Develop volunteer recruitment plans and tools
Develop trail group organizational policy and procedure templates
Coordinate trail-related learning experiences
Provide trail groups with administrative and communications support
Coordinate and support meetings of the Advisory committee
Conduct evaluation and analysis
Conduct final reporting with recommendations for next steps
Perform other related duties as assigned
Support the overall work of Hike NS

Skill / Qualification Requirements

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of project management (planning, implementation and evaluation)
Experience in communications planning and developing communications tools
Training and/or experience in fundraising and volunteer recruitment an asset
Have a passion for the outdoors
Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Knowledge of the nonprofit sector and experience in working within it an asset

The successful candidate must be:

Between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship;
A canadian citizen, permanent resident or person granted refugee status in Canada*;
Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations;
Must live in Nova Scotia.

Working Conditions

The Coordinator will be required to work remotely from their own home office (require their own basic remote office equipment and technology). Must attend regular in-person meetings with co-workers as well as meet with partners. Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends. Must have a valid drivers license.
