About the role

 

Working collaboratively with other staff, the Marketing Coordinator plays a key role in elevating the visibility of the museum’s mission in the community.

 

Your primary responsibility will be to raise the profile of  the Maritime Museum and further the mission by promoting exhibits and programs.  You will be dedicated to sharing diverse maritime stories within  core audiences and reaching new ones. Mostly through digital platforms, you will maintain a consistent and engaging visual identity and voice that is accessible to our core audience of families. You will:

  • Implement marketing strategy targeted at local audiences
  • Participate in destination marketing and other tourism focused strategies
  • Implement accessible and interactive social media strategy that grows online engagement
  • Evolve marketing strategies by collecting and analyzing patron data
  • Play a lead role in the cultivation of a cohesive brand story and visual identity
  • Integrate the VMM case for support and fundraising goals and messaging across marketing campaigns
  • Drive revenue from admissions, facility rentals, memberships and fundraising.

This is a maternity leave coverage, temporary full-time, unionized position (CUPE 15) with extended medical and dental coverage.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing media and marketing campaigns for exhibitions, programs and major organizational initiatives.
  • Designing creative content and coordinating design projects with external designers and mail houses.
  • Collecting and analyzing patron data through the use of e-surveys.
  • Implementing social media content across multiple platforms.
  • Web maintenance and search engine optimization.
  • Coordinating content from internal and external contributors to maintain a regular e-newsletter schedule.
  • Compilation and design of annual report and other occasional reports.
  • Participate in planning meetings to provide input on the museum’s exhibition, programming and events schedule.
  • Submitting event listings to print and online media, preparing and distributing press releases, and soliciting press coverage for events.
  • Budget monitoring.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years related marketing experience is required, preferably in a non-profit, tourism or cultural institution setting.
  • Demonstrated success driving revenue and audience development.
  • Computer literacy is essential including demonstrated expertise and experience with digital marketing and social media.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design using Adobe InDesign and photo editing with Adobe Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated experience working with WordPress or similar content management system.
  • Experience using an event ticketing system.
  • Comfortable working in mac and PC environments.
  • Comfortable with MS Office Suite.
  • Copywriting, editing and proofreading skills.

 

Hours:  Normal work week is 35 hours and flexibility is expected including some weekend work for special events. 

 

Salary:  $25.82-$30.39 per hour plus extensive benefits package.
