Program: Richmond WorkBC Centre  

Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

Job Summary:

The Employment Resource Advisor plays a critical role in orienting and assisting all clients in the WorkBC Centre resource hub. The Richmond WorkBC Centre strives to create a welcoming, accessible, informative, inclusive and culturally appropriate environment that supports and assists individuals to prepare for, secure, and maintain sustainable employment. As such, the Employment Resource Advisor plays a vital role in ensuring clients are welcomed and have their individual needs met. 

Reports to: WorkBC Centre Manager 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Client Services 

  • Orientates clients to the WorkBC Centre and programs 
  • Assesses clients for services  
  • Assists clients with job search and job start activities as well as referrals to community services
  • Facilitates employment-focused workshops, one-on-ones and small group settings 

Resource Gathering and Dissemination 

  • Maintains WorkBC Centre resources, including job boards, ‘How to’ resources, and cover letter and resume templates 
  • Collects and shares current labour market information with clients, employers and community stakeholders 

Operational and Administrative 

  • Ensures seamless client service through clear and accurate communications, scheduling, documentation, and data entry 
  • Maintains WorkBC Centre computers/software, office equipment, and hard copy resources to ensure smooth and timely operations in a high-demand environment 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social/Human Sciences or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the social services sector
  • Minimum of 2 years’ of experience in a social services related sector
  • Experience working with newcomers and diverse clientele 
  • Knowledge of settlement and integration processes
  • Knowledge of programs for new immigrants, refugees and temporary foreign workers
  • Knowledge of immigration and foreign worker related trends, policies and resources
  • Knowledge of database and website development is an asset

Job Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to develop and maintain a respectful, collaborative and productive relationship with clients, employers, and community stakeholders 
  • Excellent skills in computers, equipment and technology used to support clients in their job search (i.e. MS Office programs, web-based assessment tools, social media platforms, web-based research tools, and web-based learning platforms) 
  • Ability to provide service in a variety of formats (i.e. one-on-one, groups, online, and over the phone) 
  • Ability to support clients in an effective job search (i.e. identifying strengths, effective resume/cover letter writing skills, interview techniques, application of labour market information on career decision making, and assistance with interpreting self-assessment tools) 
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills with ability to manage difficult situations and respond effectively to client complaints and clients in crisis 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills 
  • Ability to accurately document client information, enter data and track statistics 

Other Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record Check 
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required 
  • Ability to work during hours of operation (8am – 6pm) 
  • Ability to work at multiple locations within the service catchment area
