The Role

The Director, Programs and Quality is part of the management team at Across Boundaries and is responsible for all aspects of program operations, planning and delivery. Reporting to Executive Director, primary responsibilities include overseeing program delivery, organizational quality improvement, privacy standards/legislation, and growth/outreach strategies. The ideal candidate excels in strategic thinking, demonstrates strong leadership qualities by overseeing a team of Program Managers and unionized staff, and assumes responsibility for team management, staff development, union relations, stakeholder relations, and administrative oversight. The Director will ensure all work in their portfolio is carried out from an anti-racism/anti-oppression and resisting anti-Black racism lens.

What You Will Do

  • Work with Executive Director and Management Team to direct the development and preparation of short-term and long-range plans/budgets based on Across Boundaries’ strategic directions.
  • Direct the division of labour and assignments of Program Managers with respect to staff supervision, program support and project management.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement operational policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, legislation, regulations and Accreditation and Excellence Canada Standards.
  • Oversee evaluation processes to ensure successful implementation and outcomes.
  • Lead the development of documentation and guidelines related to service delivery and professional practice in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Leads the development, monitoring, and analysis of continuous quality improvement and program initiatives and monitoring of internal controls.
  • Work with Executive Director and Management Team to oversee organization-wide areas such as strategic plan implementation, privacy and risk management; Health and Safety management.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of the Program teams, ensure work plans are developed and implemented by Managers and that they align with AB’s Strategic priorities.
  • Responsible for union relations, responding to and managing the complaints process and ensuring compliance with the Collective Agreement.
  • Ensure employment practices comply with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and all relevant legislation.
  • Reports on program outcomes and provides data, including statistics to indicate performance against objectives.
  • Lead in the management and investigation of serious occurrences (client and staff) to ensure agency liability is mitigated as much as possible.
  • Support select Board of Directors committee meetings, e.g. Board Quality Improvement Committee as needed and directed.
  • Other duties as directed by the Executive Director and to further the work of Across Boundaries.

What You Bring

  • Master’s degree from a recognized university or related experience.
  • 3-5 years of management experience within a health care setting, which includes supervision of health care staff.
  • Leadership experience in the non-profit, community-based sector with solid knowledge of the healthcare sector, current trends and legislative requirements.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset, particularly in managing union relations and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations.
  • Knowledge and past experience with the Accreditation process is an asset.
  • Commitment to and implementation of Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression, resisting Anti-Black racism principles in all aspects of agency work.
  • Demonstrates general knowledge of models of care, and practice in both the Mental Health and Addictions field in community-based settings.
  • Excellent strategic, organizational and project management skills; ability to prioritize workload for teams and self.
  • Ability to develop systematic approaches to planning, implementing, evaluating and improving the quality of programs and services, including providing education, training and coaching to staff.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to forge innovative partnerships and increase program reach.
  • Ability to work within established timeframes and meet deadlines.
  • Lived experience in a racialized community and a second language is an asset.
  • Excellent, demonstrated written communication skills to write clear, concise documents and communications.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office/SharePoint and project management tools.

What we offer

Our total compensation package for this role consists of a salary of $90.000 - $95.000 per annum and a generous benefits package, which includes:

Working Conditions

Across Boundaries is open Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and Saturday 9:30 am-6 pm. In addition to their regular scheduled work hours/shift, employees also work a rotational schedule consisting of evening and weekend shift(s) every 3 weeks.
