Ottawa Riverkeeper is seeking an experienced Educator to join our Education team.

  • Start Date: July 31st, 2023 
  • Starting Salary Range: $53,000-55,000 (full-time)
  • Hours: 37.5 hours/week

What you will do

Ottawa Riverkeeper is seeking to fill the new role of Educator. You will develop and lead engaging educational programming about the Ottawa River watershed. Tasks may include:

  • Developing educational modules, resources, and interpretive materials for Grade 7-12 students and their teachers
  • Teaching about the wonders of the Ottawa River watershed and how people need to collaborate to protect it
  • Scheduling and delivering in person and virtual presentations/workshops
  • Tracking and evaluating educational programs
  • Promoting our educational programs, particularly for under-served communities  
  • Learning from Anishinābeg Algonquin advisors to co-create respectful programs
  • Collaborating with Ottawa Riverkeeper’s science team, community scientists, and education advisors to develop engaging educational programs

What you bring

You are an enthusiastic and skilled educator who cares deeply about connecting diverse learners to the wonders of the Ottawa River and the actions needed to protect the watershed. You bring to the position:

  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably with a Bachelor of Education
  • Experience developing and leading educational programs both virtually and in person
  • Background in science/water literacy, experiential education, and environmental justice teaching approaches 

Other valued skills considered an asset:

  • Bilingual in English and French (oral and written)
  • Valid drivers’ licence and access to a vehicle
