Hours of Work Per Week: 40
Scheduled Hours: 12 hour night shifts (2000-0800, 8 hours sleep, 4hrs awake) on a two week rotation (refer to posting info for complete schedule)
The Program
Supports a 22-year-old male individual who who has mild intellectual disability, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Borderline Personality, and asthma.
This is a complex needs behavior position as the individual can be verbally and physically aggressive and requires mental health supports and interventions through out all shifts.
The Position
During overnight hours sleep shift staff ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for the person in care and are available to provide immediate support in crisis situations. In the event of an emergent situation, sleep staff will be responsible for awake responsibilities.
The front-line DSW sleeps at the client's residence and is available, to assist the client during overnight hours if needed. Sleep hours are paid at $16.50/hr
Scheduling:
Two (2) permanent, full-time positions that will work 12 hour night shifts (2000-0800; 8 hours sleep) on a two week rotation.
Week 1 = Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Week 2 = Wednesday and Thursday
• 8pm - 11pm (3 awake hrs) - assist/model nightly bed-time routine (personal hygiene, brushing teeth, etc.) ensuring a consistent, healthy and safe environment for persons in care.
•11pm -7am (8 sleep hrs)- You will be provided your own private bedroom, within the residence. In the event of an emergent situation, sleep staff will be responsible for awake responsibilities to provide immediate support in crisis situations.
• 7am - 8am - support client with morning routine; day shift arrives, shift exchange
In Your Role You Will
• Support individuals with household chores, life skills, personal hygiene (if needed).
• Provide supports as per the individual's care plan
• Provide immediate support in crisis situations and use de-escalation techniques to deal with behaviours
• Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.
• Use computer program to write objective daily reports and document notes & observations regarding the client

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Challenging behaviours can occur on a daily basis; MUST HAVE 2 years experience working with individuals with significant mental health concerns, aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
• High School Diploma. Prefer a Certificate, Diploma or Degree – Disability Service Worker, Social Work, Special Education or related field
• Valid class 5 driver license (or GDL and 2 years driving experience) with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
• Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
• Training in Trauma Informed Practice, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention, Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB), Conflict Resolution, Food Safe
• Confident & able to function in a crisis
