Position Title: Youth Justice Counsellor or Youth Justice Clinician
Program: Youth Justice Program Reports To: Clinical Manager
Work Hours: 35 hrs./week if residing in Fort St. John. If residing in Dawson Creek and you have a BA/BS the hours per week are 32.50 or if you have a MA/MS the hours are 30.50 per week. Your travel time will be paid to travel back and forth between Dawson and Fort St. John/Fort St. John and Dawson Creek and your vehicle mileage will be paid according to the BCGEU agreement.

Qualification:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related human/social service field and two years’ recent related experience. Good communication skills both verbal and written. Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Duties:
As a counsellor/clinician you provide direct services such as assessment, treatment, and counselling to youth who have been sentenced under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and who are conditionally released to the areas of Fort St. John and Dawson Creek and any other surrounding service delivery areas. Service provision includes direct treatment intervention through individual, group and family counselling sessions using a variety of therapeutic/clinical counselling techniques. You build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in the communities which includes consulting with Youth Probation Officers, Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services, schools, social workers, caregivers, and collateral contacts to ensure best service delivery.

Other Job Information:
Work may not always be done within normal office working hours, depending upon the clients’ needs. May need to conduct an evening group. Home visits may be required, accompanied with a Youth Probation officer. The counselling focus is often related to physical, emotional or sexual abuse, sexual offences, substance misuse, behavioral issues related to symptoms of complex ill mental health, and family disruptions. Must be able to operate a PC and related application software programs. There is yearly regional travel for training/information sessions. There may be available funding for relocation costs, please inquire about this if you are interested in this option. Also, this is a unionized position with the BCGEU.

Vehicle Use:
This position requires that you use your personal vehicle for travel in the region and weekly/biweekly travel to the Dawson Creek office if residing in Fort St. John or travel to the Fort St. John office if residing in Dawson Creek. Also, any travel as needed to attend client related meetings. Mileage will be reimbursed according to the BCGEU collective agreement.

Hourly Rate:
BA/BS is $37.55 – 47.46.
MA/MS is $41.78 – 51.14.
Depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
