We acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of many Nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.

Finally, we acknowledge all Treaty peoples including those who came here as settlers—as migrants either in this generation or in generations past—and those of us who came here involuntarily, particularly forcibly displanted Africans brought here as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. We pay tribute to those ancestors of African origin and descent.

Pride Toronto is a vibrant and inclusive organization, an organization standing at the forefront of championing the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQ+ community in Toronto. With a rich history spanning over 35 years, the heart of Pride Toronto lies in its unwavering support of diverse identities and the celebration of love as a fundamental right. The organization’s commitment to creating a safe, equal, and accepting environment for all is evident through its five strategic pillars and, as they progress toward 2025, Pride Toronto continues to set clear goals and objectives while ensuring transparency through annual updates to its membership.

Pride Toronto remains dedicated to amplifying its message and reach, thereby bettering the lives of LGBTQ+ communities and society on the whole. It is within this context that Pride Toronto invites nominations and applications for the role of Director of Communications and Marketing, a position that is instrumental to the ongoing growth and success of the organization.

The Director of Communications and Marketing will play a pivotal role in Pride Toronto’s success by spearheading all marketing and communications efforts for the annual Pride Parade and the events surrounding it. This role entails developing and executing comprehensive strategies to enhance Pride Toronto’s brand and positioning within the community. While there are no ticket sales involved in this context, the incumbent will focus on promoting attendance and participation in the parade, their responsibilities encompassing audience and market research to better understand the community’s needs and interests. Additionally, they will provide crucial marketing and communications support for education, fundraising, and community engagement activities related to Pride events. As a leader, they will manage a dedicated team and collaborate closely with them to devise innovative ways to spotlight the incredible work happening at Pride Toronto and increase participation in the parade. Their creative approach and strategic vision will be instrumental in elevating Pride Toronto’s visibility, engaging with the community, and achieving its organizational goals of promoting diversity, inclusivity, and acceptance. Ultimately, they will be working to help make Pride a joyous and memorable event that celebrates unity and fosters positive change within the community.

Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must understand and believe—intrinsically—in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all interested individuals are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the Pride Toronto environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the position: A) a deep and abiding commitment to advancing Pride Toronto’s reconciliation, anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion efforts; B) several years of experience in progressively senior roles, particularly gained within the not-for-profit or related sectors; C) team management experience and the ability to navigate complexity and provide compelling solutions to challenges that arise; D) a history of delivering excellent work in a range of environments and circumstances and a reputation for being recognized as a leader who adds tremendous value to both their teams, customers, and other organizations that they interact with; and E) deep technical abilities in communications and marketing.

Pride Toronto provides a competitive compensation package (approximately $100,000) with benefits including vacation, wellness days, and pension.

We thank everyone for their expression of interest—and are truly appreciative of the time individuals put into applying—but with the limitations of time only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
