Location:  CCS Main Office located at 18 King Street East & Youth Classroom located at 4 Industrial Rd, Bolton ON (combination of on-site and remote)

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Manager, Youth Programs, the Youth Employment Specialist/Youth Support Worker, will assist to deliver Employment Skills training and Quality Employment Opportunity interventions to youth facing barriers. Assist with selecting participants; develops and delivers life and employability skills workshops; provides coaching, assists participants with job development; monitors and provides on-site support to participants during work placements, and maintains participant files.  The Youth Employment Specialist/Youth Support Worker, will be responsible to provide part or all aspects of the LIFE for Youth Program deliverables. The primary focus for the Youth Employment Specialist/Youth Support Worker will be to support external placements. 

Position Deliverables/Accountabilities:   The Youth Employment Specialist/Youth Support Worker, is a member of the Employment & Training Division, LIFE for Youth Program team.  Under the general direction of the Manager, Youth Programs the incumbent:

  • Meets with all participants enrolled in the program to review, discuss, understand their needs and goals and assist with self-development plans;
  • Builds relationships with youth participants to create a safe space to support their needs;
  • Develops relationships with coworkers and external agencies to facilitate mentorship opportunities, employer engagement speakers and worksite tours;
  • Provides coaching and informal counseling in those life skills that support successful employment;
  • Facilitates life and employability workshops;
  • Creates and implements a detailed schedule for participant workshops and work placement days;
  • Provides weekly coaching sessions to all participants;
  • Creates a personalized file for each participant to assist with prep time prior to each coaching session and for follow up notes;
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy of program participant’s information;
  • Provides job coaching and feedback sessions to all participants;
  • Supports Manager, Youth Programs with external work placements and client coaching as required.

General:  

  • Maintains updated participant files for tracking progress and for program completion;
  • Provides monthly reporting of program stats and summary of activities for each intake to Program Manager;
  • Participates in monthly meetings with program team to ensure participant’s progress updates and participant interests/needs are shared with program staff;
  • Assists and trains volunteers interested in helping out the LIFE program;
  • Travels (by car or public transportation) and works off-site as assigned;
  • Participates in monthly meetings with Division to share updates and best practices;
  • Represents the Centre and program as needed;
  • Demonstrates/models professionalism in all aspects of program delivery;
  • Participates in a team approach to ensure that the effective and co-operative functioning across the division;
  • Participates in a division team approach to ensure that the effective and co-operative functioning of all specialists is maintained;
  • Participates in decision making procedures within the context of the mission statement;
  • Participates in staff meetings and community meetings deemed appropriate by the Manager, Youth Programs;
  • Develops strong working relationships with affiliates;
  • Makes external referrals to community partners, programs and services as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Summary of Qualifications: 

  • 2 year College Diploma in a relevant field such as social services, human services, child and youth work, etc.
  • 2 years related experience
