Full/Part-time: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)

 

Appointment Type: This is an ongoing, regular-status Providence Health Care (PHC) position (union-excluded), however, all research-funded positions are dependent on grant funding continuing to be available

The Role

 

Under the supervision of Dr. Bohdan Nosyk, the Health Economist is part of a multidisciplinary team, the Health Economic Research Unit (HERU), engaged in an international portfolio of leading-edge health economic and health services research projects focusing on HIV/AIDS and substance use disorders. Major responsibilities include: leading and contributing to econometric analysis of data, the development of economic models, research dissemination, and other research-related activities.

Some of the work performed includes:

 

  • Contributing expertise in econometric modeling methodology to ensure robust interpretation of economic evidence to support policy decisions
  • Conducting econometric modeling, analysis, and computations on large health economic datasets (using econometric techniques such as multivariate regression, difference in difference methods)
  • Designing, develop coordinate and/or implement economic modeling and methodologies to assist projects ascertaining cost-effectiveness (Markov models, simulation)
  • Preparing and deliver conference presentations, academic manuscripts, and technical reports

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Master’s degree in Health Economics, or the relevant equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience building health economic simulation models and/or conducting cost-effectiveness analysis
  • Experience with programming and simulation model building in R or Python would be an asset
  • Ability to conduct econometric analysis in software such as Stata, R or SAS
  • Understanding the core theories of economics in health care including concepts such as: supply and demand, opportunity cost, and consumer theory
  • Experience with working in an academic health economics group would be an asset
