Appointment Type: This is an ongoing, regular-status Providence Health Care (PHC) position (union-excluded), however, all research-funded positions are dependent on grant funding continuing to be available

The Role

 

Under the supervision of Dr. Bohdan Nosyk, the Statistician will be embedded in the Health Economic Research Unit (HERU) and provide expertise in the design and analysis of health research studies. Major responsibilities include: leading and contributing to statistical analysis of health administrative data, literature reviews, manuscripts, research dissemination, and other research-related activities; providing statistical advice to faculty, staff, and students; developing statistical analysis strategies; performing data analysis and evaluation, and interpreting and summarizing analyses and results for research reports and publications. Some of the work performed includes:

 

  • Providing methodological expertise across a broad range of subject areas in the planning stage of research projects, including the development of the study design and writing of the research proposal, the scope of work, and the statistical analysis plan.
  • Performing data linkage between clinical and administrative health databases.
  • Developing complex and customized queries for relational databases.
  • Performing in-depth statistical analysis of health outcomes from observational studies, administrative databases, and clinical trials.
  • Modelling complex health outcomes data using advanced statistical methods.
  • Interpreting analytic output and explaining results to researchers.
  • Developing interactive web apps for knowledge translation purposes.
  • Evaluating the quality of research databases and collaborating with data managers to improve quality.
  • Collaborating with other researchers and statisticians in the identification and completion of assigned research projects.
  • Providing consultation to staff, faculty, and students on a variety of statistical topics including study design, analysis, use of statistical software, and interpretation of results.
  • Assisting in the preparation of conference presentations, academic manuscripts, and technical reports, as required.
  • Providing formal and informal instruction to researchers on statistical models and techniques.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Master’s degree in Statistics or Biostatistics and a minimum of one year of recent related experience in biostatistics, or the relevant equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Advanced knowledge of descriptive statistics, statistical inference, and modelling.
  • Ability to advise, design, implement, and manage statistical analysis for multiple studies.
  • Proven, advanced expertise with SAS® and R statistical software (STATA a plus).
  • Experience with cleaning and analyzing data from relational, EAV databases (e.g., Oracle and REDCap) and large administrative databases.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Effective communicator who combines strong technical skills and attention to detail.
