This is a fulltime non-union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week from
November 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, with possibility of extension**
DUTIES
- Report to and assist program manager with issues and concerns related to clients’ care and program operations.
- Work with a team of staff including Recreation Aids, PSWs, placement students and volunteers to deliver client-centered, high-quality programs and services.
- Develops, plans, and implements programs and activities that are culturally relevant and linguistically competent.
- Plan and facilitate caregiver education and support groups.
- Ensure clients’ dignity and rights are well respected in the program.
- Ensure the safety of clients by adhering to Health & Safety regulations and policies and improving safety practices.
- Ensure that the program and staff follow operational policies and procedures
- Maintain clients’ care history and service records.
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers and placement students.
- Participate in team meetings and attend case management meetings with family and clients.
- Provide support to caregivers including service connection, information, and referrals.
- Liaise and collaborate with other community service providers to enable holistic care for clients and families.

QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or a related field.
- Recreational therapy experience, especially as it relates to seniors with physical or cognitive impairment
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in providing supportive care and/or services to seniors in a group setting.
- Familiar with and understand the Italian, Spanish or Portuguese Culture.
- Must be fluent in either Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese. All other languages will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs.
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Excel, and online platforms is essential.
- Must have current WHMIS, First Aid training and Food Handling certificates.
- Passionate about working with individuals with the diagnosis of dementias
- Positive, energetic, and enthusiastic person who can plan and undertake full range of activities for seniors diagnosed with dementia.
- Demonstrated ability to write monthly, quarterly, and annual program operation and service delivery reports
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, make decisions, and respond to multiple priorities and to meet deadlines successfully under pressure.
- Access to car and a valid driving license is must.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be fully vaccinated or be exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to request information establishing the validity of the exemption.
The position is open to Union members on a secondment basis.

SALARY RANGE: $27.64 to $30.03 per hour, * currently under review
