Full Time (37.5 hrs / per week) 

Salary: $49,500 - $60,588

 

The Way In (TWI) is a classic “system community navigator” program providing outreach, supportive referrals, and case management services for older adults across Calgary. Connecting older adults with financial support, information to help their financial well-being and resources that address affordability and basic needs are core objectives of the program. The Financial Link Worker will work collaboratively with TWI Teams to develop and implement activities to support the financial wellbeing of older adults including assistance with income support applications, opportunities to build assets, increase financial literacy and offer income tax clinics.

What You’ll Do

In collaboration with the Program Supervisor, the Financial Link Worker will be responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of financial empowerment activities for older adults and will:

 

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with participants, community partners, and colleagues,
  • Prepare and facilitate community financial well-being activities including but not limited to matched savings groups, financial literacy workshops, and financial coaching
  • Coordinate tax clinics and form clinics
  • Promote financial well-being activities and other carya programs in the community,
  • Work openly and collaboratively with diverse individuals and organizations and demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to personal and cultural values and ethical priorities,
  • Participate in community of practice activities, community meetings and other initiatives
  • Disseminate & educate community partners & participants on external resources and carya programs that support individuals in achieving their full potential,
  • Represent carya and its brand in the larger sector and champion agency mission and values,
  • Collect data according to reporting and evaluation requirements
  • Meeting with older adults in the office, community or at their home to assist in filling out government documents such as: CPP, OAS, ASB, GIS, Fair Entry etc.

 

What You Bring

  • Diploma in a related field, such as community development, adult education, or social work
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate on a wide variety of tasks within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to providing quality service
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Two years proven experience working in the social service sector
  • Excellent and demonstrable facilitation skills (experience in facilitating groups on financial topics or providing one on one support is an asset)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and consistently in person, by phone, and in writing in a timely manner with participants, volunteers and other stakeholders and demonstrable conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills
  • High personal value of working with community members across generations from a strength-based perspective
  • Knowledge of current financial empowerment work in Calgary communities
  • Knowledge of financial wellness resources in Calgary and Canada
  • Strong organizational abilities and experience balancing multiple demands
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in time, place of work and engagement strategies with high ethical standards and integrity
  • Must have a vehicle as the role requires occasional transit to participant homes
  • Be flexible with work schedule (including evenings and weekends) to meet the needs of program participants

The Financial Link Worker will receive a comprehensive total compensation package including:

  • Employer paid premiums for extended health benefits and 50/50 share of dental premiums
