The Opportunity
We are currently looking for an engaging, fun, and creative After School Activity Worker who enjoys working with school aged children. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the After School Activity Worker will provide direct leadership, facilitation and supervision to children in an after school activity program.

2:30 PM – 6 PM
SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 9 - $25.41 - $28.16 per hour

Key Responsibilities
• To support with the safety and well-being of children at all times by ensuring consistent supervision when working in the Program
• To assist in the planning and implementation of age appropriate activities
• To ensure activities within each club are focused on program goals and outcomes
• To ensure activities within each club are designed to generate participant interest and are age appropriate and well organized
• To provide guidance and behavior management strategies to children/youth engaged in the program
• To keep attendance records by inputting participant’s information into online program for reporting and evaluate program success
• Complete any other administrative duties required by supervisor
• To support program staff with both programs at Parkside Centennial Elementary and Shortreed Elementary, where help is needed
• Ensures a healthy and safe environment in which the participant can interact as well as observes and removes any potential hazards
• To support covering shifts if staff are unavailable or unwell
• To develop and maintain positive relationships with school personnel
• To respect the privacy and confidentially of children/youth and their families
• To communicate to parents relevant information regarding their children
• To release children only to people authorized by the Parent/Guardian
• To purchase food and program supplies
• To maintain regular punctuality and strive for personal excellence
• To maintain open communication with Program Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Knowledge
• Certificate in a relevant field
2. Training and Experience
• One (1) year recent work experience Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Experience working with children and youth in a social/recreational capacity
3. Skills and Abilities
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the
• Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)
• Effective listening and consensus building skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making
• Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment, independently and as part of a team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines
• Ability to maintain professional integrity, boundaries, and confidentiality
• Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners
• Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing under represented groups including 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous youth and young adults
• Knowledge and respect of the diversity of the BC population
