Position Title:          Part Time Permanent Women’s Counsellor, STV Program (21 hours per week; WThF)

 

Classification:         Stopping the Violence Counsellor, Grid Level 14 (Paraprofessional)

 

Reports To:              Director of Counselling Services

 

Summary:               

 

This position provides individual and group counselling and education for women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships, sexual assault and/or childhood abuse.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide individual counselling for self-identifying women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships, sexual assault, or violence during childhood. Facilitate women’s understanding of the impact of the trauma, focusing on the behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and physical consequences of the abuse, and foster development of personal coping skills.

 

  1. Deliver educational and / or support groups for women, as

 

  1. Provides information on and referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.

 

  1. Maintain appropriate client records (e.g., progress notes, assessments, phone records, termination, etc.) according to agency guidelines.

 

  1. Document required program Complete and submit program reports, as necessary.

 

  1. Assist in ongoing planning, development, evaluation, and improvement of the program. Engage in program promotion and public awareness activities about services and issues as appropriate.

 

  1. Represent the program professionally in the Participate, as appropriate, in interagency committees, meetings, workshops, etc.

 

  1. Participate as a member of the Counselling Team along with other agency staff in staff meetings, training, case consultations, and committees as directed. Act as a resource to team members regarding issues and resources related to abuse and

 

  1. Perform other related duties, as directed by

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with two (2) years recent related experience,

or an equivalent combination of experience and education

 

  • Experience working in individual and group settings with women who have experienced violence

 

  • Knowledge, understanding and demonstrated ability to analyze and respond effectively to women who have experienced violence, using feminist principles/ analysis

 

  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g., cultural, religious, age, sexual orientation, etc.)

 

  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal records search

 

  • Ability to work flexible work week
