                                                                       Senior Housing Policy Advisor
The Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO) is a community legal clinic with a provincial mandate to advance human rights and justice in housing for low-income Ontarians through legal advice & representation, law reform, community organizing, training and education.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic policy professional to fill a central position with our organization located in downtown Toronto. In this role, the candidate will work closely with a strong advocacy team to lead research on housing trends, conduct analysis of existing and potential government and private sector housing policies, and develop advocacy and law reform initiatives. The Senior Housing Policy Advisor will also represent ACTO in stakeholder consultations and municipal, provincial, and federal working groups and committees.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter motivated by an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment. They will also possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in economics, urban studies, public policy, or similar field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in leading and conducting research, analyzing and collecting data, and preparing a broad range of written products and external communications materials
  • Experience in analyzing and evaluating policy alternatives, and developing policy recommendations
  • Experience in stakeholder relations and managing collaborations with a diverse network of partners
  • Ability to effectively present results of research and policy analysis to a variety of audiences
  • Experience providing advice and input to support decision-making
  • Demonstrated interest in housing, housing affordability and homelessness issues
  • Experience using data visualization software such as Tableau would be an asset
  • Experience working for a non-profit organization and the ability to communicate in both official languages are assets in applying for this position.

This is a 2 year contract position with a strong possibility of becoming permanent. The salary is $87,500 per annum and includes generous benefits: 4 weeks annual vacation (plus 1 week during December holidays), group health benefits and pension. ACTO is a hybrid workplace.
