Based at : Downtown, Edmonton 

Reports to : Director of Programs, Homelessness 

Hours of work : 40hrs per week, Mon-Fri 

Start date : Immediate 

Status : Full time, permanent

Job Summary: 

The Volunteer Coordinator position is primarily focused on recruiting, organizing, and scheduling volunteers to support Hope Mission programs operating in downtown Edmonton.  In addition, this position helps to organize events and activities that promote Hope Mission programs.         

Major Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Recruiting new volunteers for Hope Mission, engaging with community groups, churches, businesses and other stakeholders to encourage them to volunteer  
  • Re-engaging with volunteers that have historically volunteered with Hope Mission, but have not been active volunteers for some time 
  • Work with Hope Mission programs, especially food services, to ensure the volunteers are organized and scheduled for each shift 
  • Ensure the process to become a volunteer is simple and straightforward  
  • Ensure volunteers know where to go when they volunteer, including parking and training  
  • Address any concerns from volunteers 
  • Engage in communication and dialogue with volunteers over phone, email or social media.  Ensure that all communication is timely and detailed  
  • Assist with development, planning and coordination of fundraising events as directed by management 
  • Any other tasks as directed by management 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Knowledge or training in customer service, event planning, marketing or related fields will be considered an asset  
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills  

Other Requirements: 

  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith. 
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis. 
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search 
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset 
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
