Position summary

Reporting to the IT development manager, information technology, the SharePoint technician will work closely with the senior SharePoint architect to design, implement and test new solutions and upgrades for the College’s SharePoint implementations. The SharePoint technician will also ensure SharePoint functionalities, updates and operations issues are resolved to guarantee proper system performance and usability.  

The ideal candidate is customer service focused, efficient and driven with a strong ability to communicate technology matters using everyday language. The role requires an energetic and proactive individual with a results-oriented attitude who is ready to work as part of a team as well as with a certain degree of independence.

Duties and responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • communicate clearly and effectively either electronically, by phone or in person with both technical and non-technical users experiencing difficulties in order to determine, resolve and document problems experienced; this could mean prioritizing and managing several open cases at once
  • field incoming help requests from end users, as required, and escalate as required
  • support SharePoint power users and perform site administration tasks
  • contribute to and update the IT’s problems and solutions log for use by other IT team members
  • perform troubleshooting and remediation, while updating documentation
  • perform hands on fixes, including software/hardware installations and upgrades, implementing file backups and configuring systems and applications
  • manage deployment, administration, and support for corporate computers to ensure their efficiency with SharePoint implementations
  • identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization
  • keeping documentation current and appropriate is essential

Skills and qualifications

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • post-secondary degree or diploma in information technology, computer science or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • ability to troubleshoot and manage desktops and laptops, printer set up, administration and/or email support, various browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla), antivirus software, anti-malware software, printer and connectivity issues
  • solid understanding and strong Windows and software application and hardware support (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • solid understanding of SharePoint functionality
  • experience using the modern SharePoint UI
  • familiarity with SharePoint site administration
  • proficiency with PowerShell and basic cmdlets
  • knowledge of SharePoint cmdlets is an asset
  • good understanding of C#, web applications and applications configuration files
  • migration experience using ShareGate or equivalent (Metalogics) from SharePoint on-premises to SharePoint Online nice to have
  • experience with creating/troubleshooting Nintex forms and workflows would be an asset
  • knowledge of Power Apps/Power Automate nice to have
  • experience using ManageEngine would be an asset
  • proficiency with software technologies and basic hardware
  • extremely reliable and punctual
  • must be able to work independently and know when to escalate issues upon determining cause
  • excellent customer service skills
  • responsible self-starter who can effectively plan and organize their own work
  • a positive and enthusiastic attitude, willing to learn new things
  • strong communication skills and command of the English language, both written and verbal, are required for this position

The compensation range for this position is $65,344 to $81,860 per year.

In addition to the base salary, the College provides pension contributions to the public service pension plan, a parking/transit subsidy, a wellness allowance, and a flexible health and dental plan as part of the total compensation package.
