Job Summary:

The Basic Computer Training Instructor for the STRIDE for Older Workers Program will teach program participants how to conduct basic computer skills ranging from how to turn on a computer to how to set up email accounts, send resumes and job applications online, edit and/or adapt their own resumes to be tailored for targeted positions, save resumes, create file folders, and conduct online job searches.   The incumbent will also assist the Employment Outreach Worker to market STRIDE for Older Workers to potential employers and other strategic industry partners.

Your Role:

Archway’s Basic Computer Training Instructor with the STRIDE for Older Workers Program contributes by:

  • Creating a safe and stimulating learning environment to teach program participants the basics in using a computer for job search purposes.
  • Assessing program participants’ needs, strengths and weaknesses, and determining their digital literacy levels.
  • Developing and implementing a curriculum and materials designed to meet program learning objectives suitable for adult learning and adjusting where necessary.
  • Including in the curriculum design the use of Microsoft Office365, Word, Outlook, and on-line media platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Providing basic instruction on the importance of software for data, safety and security protection and overall maintenance of computer devices.
  • Providing instruction on learning how to send e-mails, keeping a data trail, uploading and downloading attachments and saving files.
  • Teaching program participants about social media and using the web safely in their job search.
  • Introducing participants to job search techniques using search engines such as Google, and job search websites, including LinkedIn and Indeed.

This position is a great fit for someone who is proficient in the use of computers, and in being able to explain technology in user-friendly terms to train others.

Our Offer

  • Wage: $26.00 per hour
  • A permanent, full-time position at 35 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience teaching basic computer skills to adults.
  • Experience using on-line platforms and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience providing in-person and on-line group facilitation.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint to give presentations and facilitate classroom instruction.
  • Knowledge and ability to use information management systems and database programs.
  • Skills in using virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom and WebEx.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain technology using plain language to adult learners with low level digital literacy skills.
  • Ability to develop instructional materials and activities.
  • Ability to work with program participants in person, requiring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to use the screen/keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
