Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient care, needs assessment, education, and administration of medical tests. The RN works both alone and as part of a team. This position requires attention to detail and high quality of care for patients. The RN contributes to a welcoming, inclusive, and nonjudgmental environment.

The patient group is youth ages 12-24.  When the RN interacts with patients, the interaction must be characterized by empathy, non-judgmental communication, and respect for the patients’ emotional state and right to self-determination. 

Your Role:

Archway’s Registered Nurse (RN) with the Foundry Abbotsford contributes by:

  • Providing patient care for Birth Control, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) and sexual health related issues.
  • Providing assessment and education for commencement of a broad range of birth control options.
  • Collecting appropriate specimens for STI screening or diagnosis.
  • Providing education and treatment of STI positive results, and treatment of contacts.
  • Communicating with the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) regarding treatment of reportable diseases and contacts.
  • Facilitating care plans for Test of Cure (TOC).
  • Performing phlebotomy for blood borne infection (BBI) screening collection.
  • Administering Pap Smears as required for the age group.
  • Providing Point of Care HIV testing.
  • Liaising with forensic nurses to follow up with sexual assault victims.
  • Providing Gender Affirming Care.

Our Offer

  • Wage: $39.00 to $40.50 per hour
  • A permanent, casual/on-call position, availability Mondays to Thursdays.  Hours required to be available are:
    • Mondays - 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
    • Tuesdays - 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM
    • Wednesdays – 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM
    • Thursdays – 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).
  • Contraception management certification.
  • STI management certification.
  • BCIT pelvic examination certification.
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience working as an RN in youth related care is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Profile Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is considered an asset.

  • Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills; able to communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and varying levels of English.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to balance and manage competing projects and priorities.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to respond to changing conditions, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Ability to work in a high patient volume environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple health care providers.
  • Ability to navigate challenging conversations and sensitive topics.
  • Ability to be empathetic, non-judgmental, and respectful of the patients’ emotional state and right to self-determination.
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
