Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides support to the Lead Physician and Office Manager in processing lab specimens and maintaining patient information.  This position is characterized by patient care, patient follow up, administrative tasks and support as needed.  The LPN works in both a solitary capacity as well as part of a team.  This position requires attention to quality and detail. 

The patient group is youth ages 12-24.  When the LPN interacts with patients, the interaction must be characterized by empathy, non-judgmental communication, and respect for the patients’ emotional state and right to self-determination. 

Your Role:

Archway’s Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Foundry contributes by:

  • Performing lab specimen processing, e.g., testing urine for pregnancy and infection.
  • Processing all swabs and samples for delivery to external labs.
  • Maintaining inventory and ordering supplies for the Sexual Health program and phlebotomy.
  • Manually matching incoming test results to patient charts.
  • Giving DEPO shots to patients; creating scheduled care plans to ensure patient returns to receive continued care.
  • Performing office visits with patients for birth control dispensing and STI testing, with supervision from Physician, NP or RN.
  • Performing IUD consults and teaching for patients.
  • Providing patient teaching for administration of self swabs for STI testing.
  • Performing Intake procedures on new patients.
  • Performing new patient intakes for the Gender Care Program.
  • Providing pregnancy resource information and assistance.
  • Communicating instructions to patients regarding medication.

This position is a great fit for someone who is kind, considerate, caring and compassionate; has excellent attention to precision, accuracy, and detail; is able to provide safe and effective care; and creates positive relationships in responding to the needs of patients and colleagues.  Note:  This is an entry level position.  Experience is not required but considered an asset.

Our Offer

  • Wage: $26.50 per hour
  • A permanent, casual/on-call position, availability Mondays to Fridays from the following hours:
    • Mondays - 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
    • Tuesdays - 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM
    • Wednesdays - 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
    • Thursdays – 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
    • Fridays - 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Completion of a vocational, college or other approved program for licensed practical nurses recognized by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • License in good standing from the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC) and or Association of Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC).
  • Experience as an LPN an asset.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills; able to communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and varying levels of English.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately capture, process and record patient information.
  • Ability to interact with people in difficult situations.
  • Ability to be empathetic, non-judgmental, and respectful of the patients’ emotional state and right to self-determination.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule which may involve working evenings or weekends to meet clients’ needs.
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
