The Licensed Practical Nurse administers medications as prescribed by the client’s physician and documents administration and dispensing of medication in accordance with Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres policies and procedures.
Operational Duties
- Stores medications in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the facility, administered and at change of shift. Phone the preferred pharmacy with any issues or questions in regards to client medication.
- Demonstrates awareness of proper infection control practice.
- Check the Five (10) Rights for safety in giving medications:
- Dispenses client medication during scheduled times.
- Are the liaison between our preferred pharmacy and Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centers. Submit new client’s prescriptions to the pharmacy for refills and initial prescriptions. Receive all medication refills and new prescriptions from the pharmacist once a week.
- Communicate with the Addiction Counsellors in regards to any med changes for the client during treatment.
- Dead med any restricted medications from the clients or unused prescriptions.
- Enter new client medication information into the database.
- File medication documentation into each client file.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and any other applicable staff meetings and training.
- Gather and organize medication for client’s that are leaving treatment.
- Adhere to established PLTC policies, code of professional conduct, and code of ethics which holds all staff accountable for their behavior and professionalism.
- Identify and report immediately to your supervisor any inappropriate and unethical behavior witnessed of staff or clientele.
- Support the Accreditation process and adhere to all Accreditation processes and standards as per the Canadian Accreditation Council.
- Fulfills the role of the Program Attendant as needed- directive is taken from the Evening Supervisor.
Client Support
- Maintain clearly defined professional boundaries in engaging clientele at any capacity.
- Understand governing PLTC code ethics and policies in supporting clientele.
- Acknowledge and comply with staff communication protocols.
- Distributes client personal items from assigned rooming basket when required and ensure items are returned.
- Comply with PLTC code of professional and ethical conduct when associating with clientele.
Safety and Security
- Upon discovery, report the absence of a client to other staff for immediate follow up.
- Comply with existing PLTC practices in the event of a crisis situation, fire and emergency.
- Communicate and enforce client and staff compliance with treatment house rules should such an event arise.
- Regularly sign in and out on the fire regulation sheet upon shift start and end.
